TUKARAM MUNDHE SHUT DOWN A 108-YEAR-OLD MUMBAI CAFE. BUT WHY?

Maharashtra FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe has been leading a major food safety crackdown across Mumbai and Maharashtra, with inspections targeting restaurants, eateries and food businesses.

One of the latest establishments to face action was Olympia Coffee House in Colaba — a legendary Mumbai café that had recently made headlines after Christopher Nolan and Tom Holland (Spider-Man) visited.

But during an FDA inspection, officials reported serious food safety and hygiene violations, including a urinal in the food storage area, cockroach and fly infestation, meat blood residue inside a refrigerator, unhygienic food handling and other sanitation issues.

The FDA suspended the café's food licence following the inspection.

So here's the real question:

Does a restaurant's legacy — or the celebrities who visit it — matter when basic food safety standards aren't being followed?
